A plant that got masked by a cheaper substitute
For generations, families traditionally grew Kasthuri Turmeric (Curcuma aromatica) in their homesteads and used it in traditional skin care. Over time, a cheaper substitute, Zedoary or Manja Koova (Curcuma zedoaria), began to be sold in its place. Traders passed it off under the same name, and the genuine crop slowly disappeared from farms and markets.
The sad reality is most people buying Kasthuri Turmeric end up buying the cheaper substitute due to lack of awareness.
